I am on research leave from NU from January 2012 to January 2014.
I will be working at the University of Manchester, thanks to a Newton Fellowship of the British Academy.

My research interests are:

Social and environmental history of Early Soviet Central Asia, esp. agricultural and land policies, sovietisation of rural areas (1918-1931).

Russian Turkestan, esp. fiscal issues, cadastres, cotton (ca. 1880-1917).

Basmachi and anti-Soviet resistance movements (1920s).

Anti-Soviet émigré movements, "Prométhée", exile nationalism; transnational anticommunist networks (1920s-1930s).
